Kazakhstan’s presidency in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2015 will be aimed at fulfilling the existing commitments, said Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Belarus Yergali Bulegenov.
Ambassador Bulegenov presented the concept of Kazakhstan’s presidency over CIS and the action plan to implement the concept during the session of the Council of Plenipotentiary Representatives in CIS agencies on 16 December.
“The concept is balanced. It will continue what was done already in the Commonwealth of Independent States during the previous presidency terms. The concept is geared towards fulfilling the decisions and agreements that exist already,” said the Ambassador, reports Belarus news agency BelTA.
Bulegenov also said Kazakhstan will focus on the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. “Kazakhstan will call both its country and the commonwealth for widespread celebrations of this important date. Taking into account the ongoing attempts to revise and falsify the information on the war, our country will dedicate itself to the international propaganda of the most important role our nations played in this horrible war,” Ergali Bulegenov said. In his words, major efforts will be focused on the support of war veterans.
Ergali Bulegenov stressed that Kazakhstan, as the CIS chair, will promote intensification of relations between its member states in every area, including foreign policy, social and economic, energy, humanitarian and other spheres.
The session focused on the results achieved by the Council in 2014 and plans for 2015. As many as 13 sessions of the Council took place in 2014, including one session that involved members of the Economic Affairs Commission under the CIS Economic Council. These sessions tabled 37 items relevant for various spheres of cooperation. These items were primarily connected with the formation of draft agendas for sessions of the CIS Heads of State Council, the CIS Heads of Government Council, and the CIS Foreign Ministers Council. Acting within its competence the Council of plenipotentiary representatives in CIS agencies paid attention to control over the implementation of the documents adopted by supreme CIS bodies.
Sergei Lebedev, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary, remarked that the year 2014 was a complicated one for the Commonwealth, however, the operation of the Council of plenipotentiary representatives was effective thanks to the desire to preserve and improve cooperation.
